At a recent topping out celebration, I had one of those moments.

There I stood watching the final beam go into place and checking another one off the list. Projects a plenty; more than I can remember. Provided for my family in ways I could never have imagined. Some days I feel like I’m looking at just another piece of concrete, but today was bigger than that.

Precast in our community impacts virtually every person in some fashion. You’ve probably driven over a precast bridge. You might have been educated in a school built with precast. Your latest online purchase could have come from a precast warehouse. Your office just might have been constructed with precast. Parking garages…fuhgeddaboudit…of course you’ve parked in a precast garage. One might have had their day in court or served as a juror in a justice facility, but hopefully never held up residence in a precast detention facility. Sometimes we relax in a beautiful resort comprised of precast framing. We might skate in a precast hockey rink – perhaps so much that you work up an appetite to eat something made in a precast food processing facility.

I could go on and on, but I digress. Six months prior, this research facility was just a proposed idea. We helped a vision become a reality that could change the course of history someday. My reflection watching that last beam go in reminded me that what we do is not just another project in the books, but something much bigger. Our contribution to our community is hard to grasp when heads

are down hard at work, so looking up every now and then should do us some good to our health and well-being. I am regularly inspired by the talented people that can design, manufacture, and build our community.
